FROM THE HEART OF A BIBLE TEACHER/COUNSELOR/LOVER OF GOD’S WORD:
I am so deeply thankful to God for my father’s love for the Word of God. He received the Holy Ghost @ 15 yrs. of age in 1925. As a teen, he sat at the feet of Bishop GT Haywood who was an in-depth preacher/teacher of God’s Word. My father (Elder Raymond G Theobald) followed his example and became a life-long student of the Word of God.
As my pastor, my father studied God’s Word daily. He was always excited about it. He also lived the Word of God.
A minister’s pulpit preaching/teaching reveals whether he/she is a student of God’s Word. I find in my ministry of teaching God’s Word that people are hungry for deep teaching. When people sit and respond in a way that reveals they are spiritually enjoying the ‘meal’ that is being spread through God’s Word, it is a joy to share God’s truths.
I thoroughly enjoy studying God’s Word. I feel God’s anointing as I prepare notes for teaching. If one desires to be a leader/teacher, they must become a reader (student) and spend time in God’s Word preparing to share and in much prayer.
When I taught at Christian Life College (Stockton, CA) for six years under Dr. Daniel Segraves, many of the young students just wanted to get behind a pulpit and preach but did not want to spend time in the Word or prayer.
Paul told Timothy to ‘preach the Word.’ We cannot teach/preach what we do not study. Jesus gave the best example of being a teacher. He spent hours teaching in one setting. He did not give a ‘pep rally’ for 30 minutes. Jesus taught and explained how to live.
We have saved people sitting in our churches who are hungry for God’s Word. Many have emotional pain and have no idea how to process the pain through God’s truth.
Jesus came to save and to heal the brokenhearted, to set captives free from their toxic thoughts and feelings. We must be equipped with the knowledge of God’s Word to be healing helpers.
I pray that pastors/teachers/ministers will stir up the gift within to become students of the Word of God asking for His wisdom in how to teach it to feed God’s people. We all will be accountable to God as to what we do with the opportunity before us to minister His Word.
I’m speaking from the age of 71 years young, having the Holy Ghost 62 years and being a student of God’s Word over 50 years.
The more I know the more I realize I don’t know. That causes me to keep my heart and mind in God’s Word continually.
