JESUS KNEW REJECTION

Jesus came to His own and His own received Him not! When a spouse walks away from a marriage for selfish reasons, the feeling of being rejected is like an emotional bomb. The rejection bomb explodes the heart into a million pieces. The fragments of the exploded heart are lying around with the stench of ashes after a fire.

The feelings of loneliness and rejection flood the thoughts and feelings of the rejected person. Satan comes along and starts planting negative thoughts in the mind of being hopeless, helpless and unlovable. You may question God! “God, why did you allow this to happen? God, you don’t know how this feels! God, how can I trust you again?” The answers are: God gives people choice of good or evil. God was rejected and killed on a cross. Our hope and trust comes through the power of His resurrection and Spirit (the comforter) that He gives to us through salvation.

When Jesus came to earth in a robe of flesh, He experienced rejection even before His birth. There had to be gossip at the city well when the women came to draw water about Mary becoming pregnant before her marriage to Joseph. Nazareth must have been a small village with a poor image because it was said, “Can any good thing come out of Nazareth?”

His own siblings rejected Jesus when he started his ministry. The Jews would not receive him as their Messiah. They wanted to stone him. Even after all the miracles that Jesus performed in healing the sick, raising the dead, feeding thousands of people with a few fish and small loaves of bread, they still scorned him, beat him, and allowed him to be hung on a cross!

Now we can understand why it’s said of Jesus that He is touched by the feelings of our infirmities. He was God in the flesh and performed miracles and was rejected by men. Jesus came to His own and His own received Him not!

Yes, Jesus knows every heartache and pain of our lives. Jesus says, “Come unto me all ye that are heavy laden and I will give you rest.” Jesus knows betrayal and rejection and how it feels in the flesh. The physical pain of his beatings, crown of thorns, the spikes that were hammered into his feet and hands on the cross and the sword that pierced his side are completely beyond our comprehension! Jesus was willing to suffer betrayal, rejection and death so he could give us great hope through the power of His resurrection.

Isaiah 61 tells us that Jesus came to bring us the good news of salvation, but he also came to bind up the wounded and set the captives free. Through God’s truth and the power of His Spirit, we can be healed of the rejection of divorce or any other betrayal. How? It’s entitled ‘Winning the Battle of the Mind!’ As I shared above, Satan feeds our minds with his lies about every painful experience in our lives. He wants us to believe that what happens to us defines who we are, but this is a lie!

God’s truth is that we are not defined by what happens to us. God defines who we are in Him! We are His creation and we are His children through His blood! Nothing can separate us from the Love of God. Our value and worth come from God alone and it is not based on our performance or our status in life.

We have to do the work of applying God’s truth in our hearts so we can be transformed be renewing our mind. When the negative thought comes into the mind, replace that thought with God’s truth, “I am God’s special treasure! I am complete in Him. God is my strength and my redeemer. I am His workmanship.” Realize the deep meaning of Romans 8:28 – that God can take every painful experience in life and He can bring peace and harmony out of it in His timing for those who are the called according to His purpose.

A divorce or betrayal is not a surprise to God. He knows every detail of our lives because He knows our end from our beginning. God says, “Come unto me. I will never leave you or forsake you. Trust in me with your whole heart and don’t try to understand things from your own perspective. Be faithful to me and I will be faithful to you. Ask for my wisdom, guidance and provision. I will be your provider!”

Yes, you must grieve the death of the marriage – it’s a process, but do not allow the rejection to define and destroy you! In God there is always hope. Psalm 55: 16-17 NKJ – “As for me, I will call upon God, and the LORD shall save me. Evening and morning and at noon I will pray and cry aloud, and He shall hear my voice. Vs 22 – Cast your burden on the LORD, and He shall sustain you; He shall never permit the righteous to be moved.” Remember, nothing can remove you from the Love of God! – Romans 8.

Psalm 56: 3-5 NKJ – “Whenever I am afraid, I will trust in You. In God (I will praise His word), In God I have put my trust; I will not fear. What can flesh do to me?” Read the Word of God and claim His promises. Praying in the Spirit builds up your most holy faith. You are praying God’s perfect will when you pray in the Holy Ghost. Take the time to develop an intimate relationship with God through His Word and His Spirit.
