There is a song that says, “We’ll walk in the light, beautiful light, come where the dew drops of mercy shine bright. Shine all around us by day and by night, Jesus, the light of the world”. The word imitate means: “take or follow as a model – his style was imitated by many others.” God’s desire for His Bride is to follow His model and style of inner character that controls thoughts, feelings and actions.
Ephesians 5:1-10 New Living Translation (NLT)
Living in the Light
1 “Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. 2 Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.
3 Let there be no sexual immorality, impurity, or greed among you. Such sins have no place among God’s people. 4 Obscene stories, foolish talk, and coarse jokes—these are not for you. Instead, let there be thankfulness to God. 5 You can be sure that no immoral, impure, or greedy person will inherit the Kingdom of Christ and of God. For a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.
6 Don’t be fooled by those who try to excuse these sins, for the anger of God will fall on all who disobey him. 7 Don’t participate in the things these people do. 8 For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of light! 9 For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true.
10 Carefully determine what pleases the Lord.”
This is a power packed passage of scripture giving instructions to followers of God how we ought to behave ourselves. I am amazed at the lethargic attitude of many believers in their attitude toward feasting on the Word of God daily. Several years ago, Dr. Richard Dobbins’ ministry did a survey of believers who attended church weekly asking how many had daily devotions with the Lord. Only 10 – 12% reported actively doing daily devotions! Because of my counseling and teaching interaction with believers, I find that this percentage is about average even with Spirit-filled believers. This should not be!!!
This passage of scripture does not need my additional commentary. It is God’s truth that each of us will be accountable for unto the Lord. I challenge every reader to copy this passage of scripture. Post it where you can read it daily. Allow God’s Word to penetrate your heart, soul and mind for transformation in to His likeness! Let’s be imitators of God Almighty!
