1 Corinthians 2:9-10 (KJV)
9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
Most of the time when vs. 9 is quoted, the speaker leaves out verse 10. The whole truth of this passage of scripture is that we can know what God has prepared for us through the Word of God and His Spirit.
The last verse of this chapter says, “But we have the mind of Christ.” We can know the mind of Christ and what is prepared for us through studying the Word of God.
A wise teacher/preacher will never just take one verse and build a thought around it without a thorough study. My father (Rev. Raymond Theobald, deep theologian/Eschatology preacher/teacher, 1910 – 1995) taught me how to study the Word of God. We must read the entire chapter. We need to understand the setting of the scripture and the complete message that a passage of scripture is dealing with.
If we only quote verse 9, then we are misrepresenting the truth of God’s word. Vs. 10 tells us that God has revealed to us through His Spirit the deep things of God! Praise God!
Let us rightly divide the Word of Truth!
2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV)
15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
