Submission – God’s truth!
Submission is understood by studying Ephesians 5:21 – “Submitting one to another in the fear of the Lord.” I thoroughly discuss this subject through the Word of God and theologians’ commentaries on submission in my book: God’s Design for Marriage. God’s truth regarding submission is based on His example of loving the church sacrificially by His death on the cross. When a husband loves his wife as Christ loves the church, submission is not even an issue.
I willingly submit to God because of His sacrificial love. God is love! He is caring, kind, gentle and gives us His peace as His Bride. He proved His love for us by His death on the cross. This is the same reason I submit to my loving, caring husband who is an ordained minister – he is Christ-like.
Paul instructs husbands to love as Christ with all of the above attributes. When a husband loves as Christ, his godly wife willingly arranges herself under this God-loving man.
But when a husband is verbally, emotionally, physically and sexually abusive, any wife will automatically shut herself off from this abusive man.
The word ‘submission’ has been distorted by some implying even if the husband is abusive a wife must surrender. This is not a Biblical principle.
Read and study Paul’s instructions in Ephesians 5.
