Isaiah 61 forth tells the coming of Jesus with the good news of the gospel. Plus the healing of broken hearts and setting captives free from the prison ‘bounds’ of their ‘stinking thinkin.’ We can be saved, but hurting!!!!! People can be saved for years, but because of deep emotional wounds from the past they can feel they are bad, unlovable, unworthy, helpless, hopeless, etc. The emotional wounds create the blockage to God’s unconditional love.
I’ve been a God-based counselor for 23 years. I’ve counseled thousands of saved people who struggle in their ability to feel God’s love – pastors as well as lay people. They allow the memories of abuse (sexual, verbal, physical, etc.) and painful experiences in life to define who they are today. Knowing and believing the truth of Romans 8:1 takes away condemnation and shame. God’s death on the cross and His gift of salvation to us has made us brand new creatures in Him! Our past cannot define us today! We must stop believing the devil’s lies and allow God’s love to flow through us in heart, soul and mind to remove all painful emotions by replacing lies with God’s truth.
God defines us by being our Creator and becoming our Savior. Our value and worth is all because of God. God’s unconditional love is not based on our performance or our pedigree of ancestry or background. The devil throws the ‘blockage’ in everyone’s face of the feeling of being unworthy. No! None of us are worthy in our flesh! But God made us worthy! He purchased us by His own blood!
