It is a blessing from God to be a conduit of His truth to share with hurting hearts. People who are raised in abusive homes can be diagnosed as depressed and bipolar. Psychiatrists have told me, “We give meds and coping skills.” The counselees tell me the meds make them emotionally feel numb and the coping skills can be a suggestion such as jumping on a trampoline or rubbing small rocks together to bring back to a mental center.
God’s truth gives much more than coping skills. Through the power of His Spirit and Word, hearts and minds can be transformed from darkness to light. Replacing Satan’s lies with God’s truth!
God has the answers for anxiety and depression – Romans 12:1 – be ye transformed by renewing your mind – with God’s truth!
It is cognitive behavioral therapy. Cognitive is our thinking process. Behavior is our actions. God’s therapy is His Word. When we know His truth, the truth will set us free.
When children are raised in an emotional and physically abusive environment and told they are stupid, unwanted, unloved, mentally retarded, etc., they grow up believing what they were told. In their adult life (even after salvation), they fight depression, fear, and anxiety. Their emotional and spiritual healing transformation happens when they begin replacing the devil’s lies with God’s truth.
It is a decision to not allow the past to define self today in God. It is a process of renewing the mind with God’s truth. Just because the verbal abuse was spoken does not mean it is true. A person can choose to not accept the emotional ‘death sentence’ that was spoken.
We are to be renewed in the spirit of our mind. The mind is the battlefield. When we use the whole armor of God, we use the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. God’s Word transforms a person’s heart, soul and mind! This is the basis for my God-centered counseling. Speaking the truth in love. In God, there is healing and hope.
