All peoples (saints and sinners) will stand before God in a final judgment. Saints who are born again of water and Spirit will stand before God at the Judgment Seat of Christ. Rewards will be given according to the life lived and motives behind the actions. Sinners will stand before God at the Great White Throne Judgment. They will have no excuse for not becoming a follower of God.
We understand these truths by God’s Word. Romans chapters 1 & 2, give us some details about how all people will be without excuse. Romans 1: 18 – 20 reads,“18 But God shows his anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people who suppress the truth by their wickedness.[i] 19 They know the truth about God because he has made it obvious to them. 20 For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God.”
Romans 2: 6 – 16 reads, “6 He will judge everyone according to what they have done. 7 He will give eternal life to those who keep on doing good, seeking after the glory and honor and immortality that God offers. 8 But he will pour out his anger and wrath on those who live for themselves, who refuse to obey the truth and instead live lives of wickedness. 9 There will be trouble and calamity for everyone who keeps on doing what is evil—for the Jew first and also for the Gentile.[j] 10 But there will be glory and honor and peace from God for all who do good—for the Jew first and also for the Gentile. 11 For God does not show favoritism.
12 When the Gentiles sin, they will be destroyed, even though they never had God’s written law. And the Jews, who do have God’s law, will be judged by that law when they fail to obey it. 13 For merely listening to the law doesn’t make us right with God. It is obeying the law that makes us right in his sight. 14 Even Gentiles, who do not have God’s written law, show that they know his law when they instinctively obey it, even without having heard it. 15 They demonstrate that God’s law is written in their hearts, for their own conscience and thoughts either accuse them or tell them they are doing right. 16 And this is the message I proclaim—that the day is coming when God, through Christ Jesus, will judge everyone’s secret life.”
The above passage gives us the understanding that all peoples (Jews by God’s written laws and Gentiles by God’s laws written in their hearts) will have no excuse at judgment time. As creation itself testifies there is a Creator and as God’s laws are known by both Jews and Gentiles (all peoples), no one will be able to stand before God and say, “I did not know there was a God.”
Matthew 5:6 (NKJV)“6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.” If an individual hungers and thirsts for more of God, he/she is promised by this scripture to be filled. In my counseling for 25 years, I’ve asked many people to tell me how they came to know God through salvation. Everyone has a unique story of how God brought him or her to the truth of salvation.
I believe by this scripture that no one will be lost if they truly hunger and thirst for God. God knows our hearts. God will honor His word. We who have a salvation experience with God are open epistles (letters) read by all men. We are the temple (dwelling place) of the Holy Ghost. Everywhere we go, we are taking God with us. People will know there is something different about us through our words and attitudes. God knows the hearts of people. If they are hungry for God, God will open a door for communication.
We are like a candle whose source of light is the Holy Ghost. Wherever we go, the Holy Ghost (Fruit of the Spirit) will be reflecting the glory of God. The glow of God will draw hungry people to us. Acts 2:47 reads, “47 Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.”
As saints of God, we will be accountable to Him whether we allow our candle to shine before the people we come in contact with. We are to filter our thoughts through God first so our feelings and actions will be godly. Our life is a witness to those we are around. Does my life reflect godliness in all I do?
John 16:13 reads, “However when He, the Spirit of Truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth; for He shall not speak from Himself, but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak; and He will show you things to come.”
Let us not be hearers only of the Word of God, but let us be doers reflecting God’s glory. Our life is our witness to others. God’s truth declares all peoples born on this earth will be without excuse before God. Let us be sure we are doing our part as believers to live our lives in such a godly manner that others can see God in and through us.
Jesus is coming soon – at any moment! Do not live in fear, but live in joyfulness knowing our hope is beyond this life of strife and adversity. Keep looking up daily – unto Jesus who is the author and finisher of our faith. He endured the cross to give us the eternal hope of the resurrection! God living in us through His Spirit is our hope of glory! We have nothing to fear at the Judgment Seat of Christ. When we choose to live godly, we will hear, “Well done thou good and faithful servant!”
